It took Vivek Oberoi only one day get into his character of Maya Dolas in Shootout at Lokhandwala but for Sanjay Dutt, playing the part of A. A. Khan took the star several days to perfect. Officer A. A. Khan, the ATS chief who led the encounter against Gangster Maya Dolas, personally trained the actors for the Apoorva Lakhia's film.
Shooting for Shootout… was hard work for Sanjay Dutt. The actor had to go through long training sessions to present the role of A. A. Khan in the film. A. A Khan who trained the actor recalls, "It took Sanjay Dutt several says to learn about my role. I was present to give him some guidelines but Sanju took some time to perfectly match me in my getup. We used to have long sittings with director Apoorva Lakhia and the other actors. I even showed them all the press cuttings and video footage of the incident. This helped Sanjay mix and match to enhance the character."
On the other hand, Vivek Oberoi immediately got the hang of playing the role of gangster Maya Dolas. Khan had only a one day sitting with Vivek where he briefed him about Maya Dolas' behaviour. "In my one day with Vivek he was able to pick-up the character. I have seen Vivek Obeoroi's image in the film. His speech, his appearance and even the way he smokes his cigarettes perfectly matches Maya Dolas I showed Vivek how criminals behave inside in cell and how Maya Dolas would look then. I also gave him some briefing about Maya's attitude."
