Ta Ra Rum Pum director claims his film to be a hit
The unanimous verdict about the recently released Saif - Rani starrer film, Ta Ra Rum Pum was that it's a flop. The whole industry was surprised that the infallible Yash Raj banner had delivered a non starter despite having big star names and a hit writer - director, Siddharth Anand (Salaam Namaste). But, Sid stands by his film and claims it to be a hit regardless of the fact that the whole industry is terming it as a disaster.
Sid tells us, "Ta Ra Rum Pum a flop? My film's first show that's the 12 noon show was a little weak but thereafter the first week's business was probably the no.1 first week business of the year. So, despite a bad start it came out very well through the week. In fact the fourth weekend has done business that is almost on par with the third weekend. I think trade will open up more positively now as the figures come out."
Sid also puts the blame about the negative reports coming about his film to the fact that it belongs to the Yash Raj banner. He says, "I simply can't help it that there is a huge negativity surrounding my film. I think this is the first time that a Yash Raj banner film probably didn't get a good first 12 o'clock show so I think they pounced on that. They got a chance to get back at Yash Raj which has never failed at the Box Office. People here want to see Yash Raj coming down and are using my film as a medium. But with its overall business, slowly from calling it a flop they started calling it an average earner and now they have started terming it as an above average film. May be they will finally give the film its due and declare it a hit.
Sid had written his first film, Hum Tum which starred Saif and Rani. His directorial debut film also starred Saif like his Ta Ra Rum Pum but now as he going to make a trilogy of sorts with his favourite actor? "I have a script ready with me but it doesn't star Saif this time. I am thinking of casting Ranbir Kapoor in it with a new face." the young director reveals to us.
