Sudhir Mishra Sudhir Mishra making short film on real life incident

Acclaimed director Sudhir Mishra is making a 10-minute short film, partly inspired by a real life incident - a murder that took place in Byculla, Mumbai during the 1992-93 riots.

"Some ideas are best compressed within 10 minutes, rather than three hours. The difference is of one between a fable and a novel. Besides, I think the audience no longer wants to see the same thing again and again," says Mishra.

Titled The Ball, the film is currently being shot and promising actress Soha Ali Khan is part of the cast. The film also features Chinmay Kamble, who played the role of a tsunami-afflicted boy in Madhur Bhandarkar's Traffic Signal.

The other nine films also reflect the city of Mumbai, he adds.

Ruchi Narain, who is directing one of the other films, says, "The casting of my film has not been finalised yet. The movie will be a romantic comedy; the shooting for which will start by end of this month."

Making of the movie was not on my cards but when White Cloud Pictures approached me, I couldn't reply in the negative," says an enthusiastic Ruchi.

"It's about today's youth, nothing autobiographical but it will touch your heart and souls," says Ruchi, who wrote the screenplay of the highly appreciated Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi.

The films will be presented by Sahara Motion Pictures and produced by White Cloud Pictures, which is headed by Samrat Sengupta and Niyati Shah Sengupta.

All 10 films are likely to be ready by August 2007, and will do the festival rounds before a theatrical release.
