Sharman Sharman Joshi gets serious

Rang De Basanti star Sharman Joshi has two released lined up on the same day (May 11) - Anuraag Basu's Metro and Raj Kanwar's Raqeeb. But he is least perturbed. The actor known for his comic act in films like Style, Excuse Me and Golmaal shall be seen in a serious role for the first time in the thriller, Raqeeb. In Metro too, he plays a complex character.

On playing a different role in Raqeeb, Sharman says, "It was not a deliberate attempt to act in a serious film. I found the subject intuitive. My character is that of a businessman, who is connected with Rahul Khanna. Our relation is not that of business associates. We are good friends and I try to bring Tanushree close to him. I am playing a passionate guy, who likes to live his life to the fullest. There is no heroine opposite me and I play a man of many women."

Sharman has always been very choosy in selecting his roles and has never featured in a solo hero project. "If a character does not excite me, even if the script is great, I may not go for it and vice versa. I have not yet found a script with a solo hero subject exciting. I hope I will get one very soon.

Having worked in films like Style and Rang De Basanti and being appreciated for my ability to handle comic roles, I am happy with the way my career is shaping up. I have always consciously tried not to analyse myself. I want to act naturally. I live for the moment and want to carry this same vulnerability in my roles."

He further adds, "This is the first time I am working with most of my co actors in my forthcoming films. In Raqeeb, it was a great experience working with Jimmy Shergil, Rahul Khanna and Tanushree Dutta. Rahul is basically my kind of person as we both are on the same wavelength."

About Raqeeb's Director he says, "Anurag Singh being a debutant director narrated his story with passion and involvement. I liked his approach. Before the actual shoot, we had acting workshops which were fruitful because the actors were not only in tandem with each other but it also created a comfort zone for us."

Speaking about his other forthcoming projects Sharman says, "In Metro, I am opposite Kangana Ranaut. The film is set in Mumbai. It's about the lives of people in the city. It focuses on urban relationships and the way people juggle roles.

Then, in June, I will be seen in Priyadarshan's Dhol where I have been teamed up with Kunal Khemmu and Rajpal Yadav. It is a youthful film about students who have passed out of college and are trying to put their life together. I am also doing Atul Agnihotri's Hello based on Chetan Bhagat's novel and One Night At The Call Centre, which is all about a slice of life."
