Bhansali keen to avoid clash with 2 SRKs
Shah Rukh Khan has preponed the release of his film Om Shanti Om to Diwali from early December. Apart from playing a double role, SRK is also producing the film. But Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who had also announced that his film Sawariya will release during Diwali months earlier is livid. He doesn't want his film with star kid debutantes Ranbir Kapoor (Rishi Kapoor's son) and Sonam (Anil Kapoor's daughter) to clash with the Farah Khan-directed flick.
Our source close to Bhansali tells us, "The Black maker has tried sending feelers to his Devdas star, but is not meeting with any positive response of any kind to postpone his film. Bhansali, many months back, had zeroed down on November 9 as the release date of Sawariya. He had no competition in front of his film, which has generated tremendous curiosity value in the film circles and fans alike. But the Badshah Khan has suddenly started readying his film for release on the same date."
"Diwali time is considered most lucrative in terms of business for Bollywood. The past decade's record of Bollywood releases during Diwali is proof of this. With multiple films releasing on that day, the business often gets divided or one film ends up as the winner and the rest suffer losses. Like in the case of last year's SRK starrer, Don and Salman-Akshay starring Jaan-E-Mann - the former a clear winner and the latter a massive flop. Bhansali wants to take no such chances", the source continues.
"The King Khan has packed in every possible masala in his film to attract the cinegoers. It not only features him in a double role - that of an aspiring Bollywood actor who is murdered and comes back from the dead to avenge his killing-it also has a song that features 24 top Bollywood stars in a song sequence, reminiscent of the Manmohan Desai directed Naseeb's John Johnny Janardhan.
"Om Shanti Om stars Arjun Rampal, Shreyas Talpade and newcomer Deepika Padukone opposite SRK. Bhansali's film on the other hand is a period love story set in the pre-independence era between a Hindu boy played by Ranbir and a Muslim girl played by Sonam. His favourite actor, Salman Khan also has a brief but important role in the film. Rani Mukherji has been cast in the cameo role of a nautch girl in Sawariya," concludes our source.
When we contacted Bhansali's production house, the officials told us, "Our film is confirmed for a November 9 release and we won't be budging it for any other film, whichever it may be." Shah Rukh's production company officials refused to comment on the matter.
