The debutant director Robby Grewal, who indeed has put in a lot of effort, directs Samay. He has taken a risk to make a movie so serious and straight as Samay. Samay is a murder-mystery. Sushmita Sen plays the main lead. The movie begins with the murder of a famous industrialist. The man is a 34-year-old Kapil Sharma. The case is assigned to the Assistant Commissioner of Police Malvika Chauhan (Sushmita Sen) and her assistant Satya (Sushant Singh). But the two, in spite of their hard work, cannot find evidence.
The murder turns into a mystery, as they are not able to find any fingerprints, no signs of struggle nor any reason for the offense. All this means that they are facing a well planned killer who is dangerous.
Initial investigations lead them to Kapil's friend Raghu Kotian (who had an affair with the victim's wife and was also present at the scene around the time of the crime). But, Malvika is convinced that the killer is someone else.
Even before the investigations come to a conclusion, another murder takes place. The victim is an actress called Ritika, who is murdered in the makeup room of her movie set. Suspicions turn towards Ritika’s co-star Rocky, but Malvika is not convinced with it. She senses some connection between the two murders.
Soon, Malvika realizes that she is being secretly pursued. The movie has a lot of action in store and will thrill and chill the viewer as the gorgeous Sushmita will chase the suspects all over the dirty streets and slums to solve the mystery. At last, they come to a contract killer Suleiman Bhai's hideout, but find him dead!
Malvika is now convinced that the same person has committed all the three murders. Each killing was done so austerely and with such perfect timing that noone will ever know what was the cause of it or for that matter, who the killer is. But the killer deliberately leaves behind enough clues to keep the cops on the hunt.
Samay- When Time Strikes is a different murder mystery where, even the viewer, along with the cops, hunt for the killer till the end. The movie builds up pace and the action in the movie is nail biting.
Sushmita Sen has shed her glamorous image and has dawn the role of a responsible officer. And she has done a decent job in the movie. Sushant Singh has done a fabulous job as Sushmita’s assistant. There is immediacy in his acting.
The screenplay reminds one of a treasure hunt where one clue leads to another. Though some of the scenes in the movie is a copy of action masala movies, the movis has its own style. It is a good movie to watch especially if the viewer is an action fan who is willing to watch a miss universe as a cop!
The film has two songs composed by Sandeep Chowta. The peppy and hot song Laaila Laaila is hot enough to woo the viewer as a bally dancer was brought from hollywood to dance for the tunes.
Samay is a good movie to watch and entertain oneself except for the lose ends that the director has forgotten to tie and left it to our imagination!
