Qayamat Director: Harry Baweja
Music: Nadeem-Shravan
Cast: Ajay Devgan, Suniel Shetty, Sanjay Kapoor, Arbaaz Khan

Imagine an action thriller without muscle men like Akshay Kumar, Suneil Shetty or Ajay Devgan? Is it possible? No! For better effect, there have to be at least two of them in our masala flicks to represent an action packed movie like Qayamat.

As far as the plot goes, it has been taken from the Hollywood movie, The Rock. What is different in Qayamat is that the effect of a "rock" is not seen in the movie but the presence of water is found throughout. Even the songs are not an exception as we can see the beauty of the blue, green, and colourless water everywhere.

Ali and Abbas (Sanjay Kapoor and Arbaaz Khan) are engineers cum arms-dealers for the ISI. Along with Laila (Ishaa), they have held 230 tourists as hostages on an island that was formerly a jail. Virus-tipped missiles are set to hit the city’s water resources if their demand for Rs 1500 crores and escape from India are not met with.

Akram (Suniel Shetty), a CBI officer, puts down a plan of action. He needs the help of one man. A convict - Rachit (Ajay Devgan), for he knows the underwater way to the island. The government has only 24 hours in which Rachit is summoned, given a trendy haircut plus a change of wardrobe, a plan is devised and a mission is set.

Ajay Devgan is one actor who impresses the audience with his silence (most of the time in the movie) rather than long, profound dialogues. He has come out with Suneil Shetty looking responsible and intelligent in his role. Ishaa Koppikkar is the only female lead who leaves a mark as both Riya Sen and Neha Dhupia fail in their performances.

Music by Nadeem Shravan is melodious especially the song Woh Ladki Bahut Yaad Aati Hai. Mind-blowing action with amazing graphics is the strength of the movie. A little bit of Matrix in Bollywood style is a very good dose of entertainment for Indian viewers. Ishaa Koppikar's sizzling dance number looks like the remake of her Khallas act in Company. Somehow, Qayamat looks like a sequel to Kaante, may be because of the same actors!

On the whole, the movie looks like a mixture of a lot of things and in an attempt to give the viewers a different movie, it fails to impress the viewer. We still wonder why the movie is called Qayamat!
