Director: S.J. Suryah
Cast: Fardeen Khan, Khushi
Khushi happens to be one of the better remakes in recent times. The look of the film is quite refreshing and producer Boney Kapoor seems to have done a good job... But even though fresh, the movie has some jagged sequences that seem to have been put forcibly to lend various moods into the narrative. Yet, there are certain moments in the film that make you laugh and other moments that reduce you to tears.
Khushi (Kareena Kapoor) is the daughter of a simple man from Himachal Pradesh who meets Karan (Fardeen Khan) in college and the two slowly fall in love.
But when Khushi catches Karan ogling at her navel, the two fall out and refuse to acknowledge their love for each other.... All is not well or should we say all is nai-vel with the couple then. But in the process of helping two friends get married, they come closer, but still do not admit their love... until, of course, the climax.
The worthless arguments between Kareena and Fardeen in the first half lend a considerable emotive quotient to the film but how the two fall in love slowly but yet maintain their distance is what really pulls a string at heart.
Kareena Kapoor fits well into the role of a girl with a big ego. Her performance oozes oodles of confidence but still it lacks the sensitivity of an actress who knows what subtle expressions to give before the camera.
Fardeen Khan has just about managed to carry his role in the film. His limited exaggerated range notwithstanding; the actor certainly needs to improve upon his dialogue delivery and vocal modulation.
Though an ambitious attempt by director S.J. Suryah to break free from Bollywood stereotypes and come up with a lighthearted romantic movie that can appeal to people of all age groups Khushi lacks a fluid narrative.
But in spite of all its flaws, Khushi is a healthy entertainer that will appeal to youngsters and people who like family dramas. |
