Bheja Fry Bheja Fry: Go savour it quick!

indya.com rating: 3.5 out of 5

Cast:Rajat Kapoor, Sarika, Vinay Pathak, Ranvir Shorey and Milind Soman.

Director: Sagar Ballary

Synopsis: Ranjeet Thadani (Rajat Kapoor), a bored, arrogant music company executive hurts his back the night he finds a prize catch for his weekly bring-your-idiots talent dinner hosted by his friends and him. The buffoon, Bharat Bhushan (Vinay Pathak), an income tax officer, is under a false impression that he is a great singer. Ranjeet ends up spending the evening with this idiot, who tries to help him get his wife (Sarika) back who left him earlier that day. The result is utter chaos let loose by the idiot, who cannot do a single thing without messing it up further. With his wife's ex, Anant (Milind Soman), girlfriend Suman Rao (Bhairavi) and a no nonsense colleague of Bharat Bhushan, Asif (Ranvir) also joining the jamboree, the plot turns around to be a series of mini disasters that leaves Ranjeet's comfortable life in ruins. Through all this, Ranjeet discovers the love for his wife and learns an important lesson of moral science from his 'idiot'.

Bheja Fry Acting: Rajat Kapoor and Vinay Pathak are both credited in the titles for improvisation in the dialogues of the film. Occupying the maximum screen time they both come out with such uproarious comic timing that at times you almost fall off your seats laughing. Vinay's antics and Rajat's reactions to them are howlarious. Vinay's poker faced comic yet sensitive act is so real that he reminds you of those untalented losers you see lining up for talent hunt shows. Sarika fits in her part ably. Milind Soman is fun to watch in a lighter role. But the usually likeable Ranvir is irritatingly over the top in here, in a permanently sullen expression. Page 3 socialite turned actress Bhairavi Goswami is perfect as the dumb belle.

Bheja Fry Direction: Hats off to young first timer Sagar Ballary for successfully pulling off a unique comical farce that entertains you throughout and leaves you wanting for more. He has won half the battle by choosing the right actors for his characters. Shot in 19 days flat on a budget of Rs. 60 lakhs, the film neither looks low budget nor does the mostly single location shoot setting makes you claustrophobic. Out of the four releases this week, his Bheja Fry is the best bet to go and relish in a multiplex near you.

Bheja Fry Script: The strength of Sagar and Arpita's script (inspired from a French play) lies in the characterization of every single actor. The concept is truly hatke and well adapted into an urban comedy. The plot setting is believable and the hilarious twists and turns coming at regular intervals have you in uncontrollable splits. Mistaken identities, garbled messages and other assorted oddball occurrences truly make Bheja Fry suitably madcap and paisa vasool.

indya.com rating: 3.5 out of 5

Music: In this 95-minute film, music has very less scope and the two songs used in the background manage to go with the flow of the movie.
