Ranvir Shorey: When stunts go wrong
Ranvir Shorey, the actor who is known more for his ex-pressions than his dialogues, is thrilled to have his first lead role in Mitya. His latest film will also be the first (and hopefully last) time Ranvir performs stunts. The actor almost severely injured himself while jumping off the fourth storey of a building.
The crew of Mitya was shooting opposite the Metro Theater for a stunt scene which required him to jump from the fourth flour of a building when the accident happened. Ranvir says, "I went to the building for the shoot. It was the first time I have had to tie myself to a cable. All the stunt equipment was from Alimani and they told me when I had to jump."
The trial run of the stunt went off smoothly but it was the second trial that could have cost the actor his good looks. "The second time we did it I jumped but suddenly I found myself stuck in the air half way down at the second floor of the building. I was thinking to myself 'Thank God the cable hasn't snapped' but then I started swinging! I saw that I was going to bang into a wall and in the nick of time I stretched both my hands out in front of me and I saved myself."
The scary experience wasn't all bad for Ranvir, who enjoyed the attention the deadly stunt got him later. "When I came down they all took care of me. They gave me a massage and asked me if I was alright. The attention I got at the time - I just loved it!" he laughs. After the incident, he is not too keen in being the macho stunt man. "I'm hoping that this is the first and last stunt of life!"
Ranvir has previously been in the films Bheja Fry, Khosla Ka Ghosla, and Traffic Signal. He'll soon be seen in No Smoking, Aaja Nachle, Buddha Margaya, Tisri Manzil and I am 24 among others.
