Payal to play second lead in Priyadarshan's Dhol
Payal Rohatgi, who gained some recognition with the song O Sikandar from Corporate, will now be seen as the second lead in Priyadarshan's Dhol. After playing small roles in 36 China Town and Corporate, she will be portraying one of the central characters in Priyadarshan's comic-thriller. The film also stars Tusshar Kapoor, Sharman Joshi, Kunal Khemmu, Tanushree Dutta.
"I play a very important role in the film. In fact, it is my character, which leads to the unravelling of the mystery in the climax. Priyadarshan has given me a very good chance to express myself emotionally in the film, which I have never done before. I have worked very hard for over two years to change my bold image and I am happy that it is bearing fruit."
But does she really think she had managed to change her item girl tag? I have tried my best but it's the media, which doesn't want it to change. This despite the fact that I have worked with good directors like Madhur Bhandarkar and Abbas-Mastan. Everywhere you see my wallpapers or a write-up about me, it is always linked to my bold personality."
On being asked which role among Corporate and 36 China Town did she enjoy more Payal said, "I enjoyed doing both but I got a chance to prove myself more as an actor during Corporate. However, it was big challenge too doing the role. I had to smoke for one scene in the film but since I had to shoot continuously for it, I got addicted to it. It took me 2-3 months to get over it completely."
Payal has not been seen on the big screen since Corporate, which released last year. So what was she doing all this while? "I concentrated on improving myself. I learnt Latin American dancing since most of the offers I got demanded me to dance. I am currently also learning Jaipur Kathak. My mom advised me to work on my looks too. So I decided to shed a few kilos. She told me that I was good in Corporate and 36 China Town but my roles were very repetitive. I am sure she will see a different Payal in Dhol."
