Nisha Kothari and Ram Gopal Verma perfect Ghungroo's tapori lines
Nisha Kothari had a blast playing Ghungroo in Ram Gopal Verma Ke Sholay because she was allowed to improvise on her tapori dialogue.
Nisha, who plays the character of Basanti from the original Sholay, will go by the name of Ghungroo in Ram Gopal Verma's version. In the movie, she is required to use crass language and she and Ram Gopal Verma were continuously changing around the script to what they thought would suite the character best.
Nisha says, "Whatever was written in the script was not the same on Ram Gopal Verma's sets. He changed the lines according to his convenience. That's the reason why Ramu's films seem to be more realistic than others. Even my dialogues were changed many times according to the Ghungroo's character. She is a very urban personality; a tomboy who uses tapori language."
Talking more about her character in the movie, Nisha identifies with Ghungroo saying , "I am a tomboy in real life. That may be one reasons why my character looks very natural. I like to dress up causally." Unlike the previous Sholay, Ram Gopal Verma Ke Sholay has Ghungroo riding an auto rickshaw which she fondly calls 'Laila'. Originally, Basanti rode a horse carriage.
Nisha Kothari's character, Ghungroo, hates men until she falls in love with Veeru, played by Ajay Devgan. It is also said that Ghungroo will be smoking beedis throughout the movie. "It's a big suspense whether I have smoked beedis or not. You will see them throughout the film with me."
In Ram Gopal Verma's ambitious attempt to remake Sholay he has made many changes to make sure it has fresh appeal which cannot be compared to the original hit. The film is directed by Ramesh Sippy. It has Amitabh Bachchan playing the role of Gabber Singh with Ajay Devgan cast as Veeru (originally played by Dharmendra). Nisha Kothari's new look is another highly anticipated aspect of the film.
