I went to the chawls of Mumbai for the first time
Till sometime back, Neha Dhupia was more familiar with the roads and malls of Mumbai. But she got a first hand experience of the much-publicised 'Mumbai spirit' during the shoot of Ek Challis Ki Last Local.
"Ek Challis... is the story of the journey of normal human beings. They miss the last local for home and have to stay out until the first local arrives next morning. To portray the characters as real as and easily connectible, we have shot on stations, in trains and the chawls of Mumbai," reveals Neha.
"The whole film is based on one night on the streets. So most of the film has been shot in the night only."
"The people who were staying around came to serve us tea and coffee willingly late in the night, even at 3 or 4. We never asked them for giving this kind of service but they did it voluntarily."
On being asked share some special moments during the shooting of the film Neha said, "This was the first time ever that I went to the chawls of Mumbai, that is the jhuggi-zhopdis."
Shooting for the movie was an eye opener for Neha. "I saw people living in the most pathetic conditions - people sleeping outside their homes for lack of space but the spirit was very much alive."
