Kulraj Randhawa to make Bollywood debut
Kulraj Randhawa, who played the lead in the serial Kareena Kareena, is all set to enter Bollywood with Anil Sharma's (Gadar) brother Kapil in Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron. Anil's other brother Sanjay is directing the film.
After Kareena..., Kulraj - who has done film a Punjabi film Mannat with Jimmy Shergill - is excited about Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron. "I have completed shooting for Jaane... which will release this July. This is not the sequel to the old film of the same name. There are no similarities in the story. It is a comedy-romantic film."
So, which role are you playing this film? "I'm playing a character called Nisha, who is part of a gang which has a particular mission. There are a few action scenes as well. The film includes all the elements to make it a proper masala film. Anupam Kher, Prem Chopra, Vijay Raj, Dilip Joshi and Makrand Deshpande are the other stars in the movie. I hope everyone will like it."
Has she seen the old film? "I have and I like all characters from the old film, they were just perfect for their respective roles. It was a non-glamorous film but with a great comedy timing plus an excellent storyline. It's an all-time classic. I liked the character of the girl (Bhakti Barve-Inamdar), who helped Naseeruddin Shah and Ravi Baswani".
So what about television? "Right now, I'm concentrating on films as television requires a lot of time. I have certain expectations about this film, but I want to wait and watch. After Kareena Kareena, I needed a break, as I was working for it for two years non-stop. However, I immediately got Mannat, which was a hit overseas. It was based on a very different subject and I played a double role in it."
Kulraj will also start shooting for a Punjabi movie soon. She thinks there are differences in both the industries. "Punjabi is my mother tongue, so I feel comfortable working there. That apart, regional cinema is also doing good business nowadays."
