Juhi Chawla says no to Bhojpuri film
Juhi Chawla, recently seen in Swami, has rejected an offer to act in a Bhojpuri film because she doesn't want to be a part of regional cinema.
Her secretary K.S Sanjay informed us, "Juhi is doing only select films these days and is busy with them." But a source close to her revealed, "Juhi has been offered approximately the same amount which she charges for Hindi films but she said no only because she is not interested in doing regional films."
Juhi's decision might come as a surprise to many since the Bhojpuri industry has grown in stature in past few years after producers like Deepak Sawant roped in the big names like Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini, who acted in Ganga.
Of late, there has been a race to make big budget films (between Rs 1 and 1.15 crore). Bhojpuri films have an audience of over 27 crore. The market is not restricted only to India. There is a strong following among people who understand the language in Mauritius, Ghana, West Indies, Fiji, Nepal, Dubai, Indonesia, and the Netherlands.
Bhojpuri super stars like Ravi Kissen and Manoj Tiwari charge around Rs.2.5 million per film - a nominal amount compared to what the Hindi film heroes demand. But Ravi explains, "The industry is just over 4-years-old and one which has a bright feature. It has a huge fan following as almost 35% of the Hindi audience follow Bhojpuri cinema. Ajay Devgan and Amitabh Bachchan have also done films in this language. So I don't think there is any risk coming in."
