Big B-SRK rift delays Bhootnath
The war between the Bachchans and Shah Rukh Khan is delaying shooting on the only current film they're acting together in, insiders said.
Shooting for Ravi Chopra's Bhootnath has not been taking place for many weeks now because of an inability to get coordinated dates from both Big B and King Khan.
Vivek Sharma, director of Bhootnath says, "It is true that we are facing date problems for the film, having both Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan in the film. There are two main reasons for the current delay. We had to lose three months because Mr Bachchan had been busy with Abhishek's marriage and currently he is busy completing Sholay which has him in a totally different get up to that of Bhootnath."
Asked if the rift between his stars was causing the delays, Sharma replied that this was not the case. Rumours that Bachchan had demanded changes in the script (presumably in Shah Rukh's role) before he would return to shoot were also untrue, Sharma said, adding that "we will definitely be resuming shooting with him from July."
Bhootnath's story is that of a young boy's encounter with a ghost. Bachchan plays the friendly ghost, while SRK plays the boy's father. The two last acted in Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna and Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Ghum.
Last year, after Shah Rukh was picked to do Kaun Banega Crorepati on Star instead of Bachchan, a row broke out between them, culminating in a series of interviews and retorts from both sides.
The growing rift between the Bachchans and SRK is understood by insiders as having split the industry into factions, which lie either clearly with one side or another, or uncomfortably in the middle.
Karan Johar and Aditya Chopra's production houses both share relationships with both parties.
Of the other big names in the industry, Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukherjee and Farah Khan are clearly on the SRK side while with the Bachchans are Ram Gopal Varma, Rohan Sippy, Apporva Lakhia, Goldie Behl and Shaad Ali.
