Aamir Khan to go bald for Ghajini remake
Aamir Khan will be going bald for his yet untitled home production, the remake of the South hit Ghajini. The method actor who is known as a perfectionist has often altered his physical appearance for the sake of his characters in his films. This time he has decided to shave off his hair for his role in Ghajini.
Our source close to Aamir tells us, "The script demands that in the second half of the film, Aamir's character sport a bald look to avenge his girlfriend's murder by the villain. Aamir had seen the Tamil original and had been so impressed by the film that he decided to produce it himself and also act in it. He knows that his character will have to sport a clean shaven head post interval and being an actor who never comprises when it comes to physical attributes of a character he has left aside the option of donning a specially made wig to appear bald. The shooting of the film is currently on in Mumbai and Aamir is planning to go for the bald look in a month from now when they start shooting the film in Chennai."
"Playing a business tycoon in the film, Aamir has a mop of hair in the first half of the film. The twists in the film's story lead to his girlfriend's murder. The girlfriend's character is played by Asin who had done the same role in the Tamil version. The tycoon also gets hit on the head by a rod resulting in a temporary memory loss. Aamir's bald look and constant shaking of his head trying to visualize the presence of each person during the night of the incident is going to be the highlight of the film." adds our source.
Amongst other lead actors who have gone bald for their roles in recent times are -
Akshaye Khanna while playing Mahatma Gandhi's son Harilal in Anil Kapoor produced soon to be released Hindi/English bilingual, Gandhi - My Father.
Salman Khan for Tere Naam (2003) in the film's second half where he is shown in a mental asylum.
Actresses Nandita Das and Shabana Azmi shaved off their heads for Deepa Mehta's Water in 2000 but when the film's shooting was disrupted in Benaras by the locals, Deepa Mehta decided to stall the film. Years later, when Water was revived, their roles were played by Lisa Ray and Seema Biswas respectively and they sported bald pates for the film that later got nominated at the Oscars.
Aamir - The Method Actor
For most of his films in the last decade, Aamir has undergone physical changes for his films. The most prominent one has been the long haired - mustachioed look he sported for three years to play Mangal Pandey. He sported it right till the film was released incase it was required to re shoot certain portions.
For Dil Chahta Hai (2001), he sported short hair and a goatee which went on to become very popular amongst his fans.
For getting the perfect look for the climax of Ghulam (1998), Aamir did not bathe for 5 days.
He even put on a little weight for the first part of Fanaa (2006) and became slim again for the second half of the film.
For Sarfarosh (1999) he used to shave a night before the actual shooting day so that his chocolate looks looked a little rugged and more suitable as an ACP.
